PAUL ASHTON  lead vocals

Useful information: Professionally trained in all styles of singing, Paul has appeared on stage regularly since his early teens.  He was lead vocalist for 10–piece function band "Mr Kite's Benefit Band", performing at wedding, corporate and charity events and as part of professional duo "Envy" Paul travelled the UK, performing at a large array of venues for over four years. Envy also appeared at the Middlesex Show for which they were interviewed live for London's LBC radio station and had their original material played on-air. Paul provided the lead vocals for “Dance ‘96” at the Palace Theatre, "Songs From The Musicals" at the Royal School of Music and had a lead role in "The Dearly Beloved" at the St Albans Abbey Theatre. In 2000, Paul toured Hertfordshire with an original play he wrote, produced and performed in. Paul also spent two years as lead vocalist in the stage show for the Pepper Foundation, based in Berkhamstead. Paul has vast experience in studio work - both recording and producing material and he is an original member of POP FICTION.

Useless information: Paul likes 24, Quantum Leap, Friends, Fifa (PS2), Dire Straits, Melba's lasagna and playing snooker.  He dislikes bad drivers, traffic jams & brussel sprouts.

 

 

DAVE BALL  lead guitar

Useful information: Dave has played guitar for twelve years – first being taught at his local college from the age of 14 and then enrolling at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music where he studied under many inspiring professionals including Jamie Humphries and Guthrie Govan. Dave has worked with Turin Breaks and Wheatus and was the lead guitarist for a top Blondie tribute band for several years. He teaches guitar both in schools and privately and has been POP FICTION's lead guitarist since 2006.

Useless information: Dave likes custard creams, Tottenham, Knight Rider and romantic comedies.  He dislikes un-ironed clothes, dirty cars, Ian Beale (!) and people eating food in supermarkets before they have paid for it!

 

 

VIKKI BYARD  lead vocals

Useful information: Vikki's first performance was at the age of ten playing Cinderella at the Congress Theatre in South Wales and she has been performing ever since. Since graduating with a BA Hons in Music & Theatre from the Guildford School of Acting, she has performed in many theatres around London - including the West End and the London fringe (including Fame - Victoria Palace, Sweeney Todd - Bridewell, The Fantastiks - Hampstead, Antigone - Wimbledon & HONK! - Landor) and has worked and recorded for several London recording studios. She has appeared in various pantomimes around the UK and has given solo performances in France (as a guest of the Gwent Police Choir), Italy & Japan. Vikki spent eight months in Tokyo singing for Walt Disney Productions which also included additional studio recordings for the Disney team, and she has also given several performances at the famous Jane Yamano Beauty Schools in Tokyo. Vikki also writes her own material and she taught singing and drama for eight years both privately and in stage schools around London before leaving to manage POP FICTION & vocal duo ONE NIGHT STAND.  She is an original member of the band.

Useless information: Vikki likes Brian Potter, Alan Partridge & Jack Dee (must be a miserable old man thing...) 24, Monk & Desperate Housewives.  She dislikes bad customer service, the cost of London transport and mushrooms.  Vikki is also the band vegetarian! 

 

 

 

JAMES MADDISON  keyboard & vocals

Useful information: James has been playing piano & keyboards since he was seven and at fourteen landed his first job as rehearsal pianist for a local theatre group.  He soon moved on to musical directing and moved to London aged twenty.  Since then he has enjyed working on shows such as "Chitty Chitty Bnag Bang", "Taboo" and "Wicked" among others.  He has worked with stars such as Matt Lucas, Ian "H" Watkins, Richard O'Brien and the legendary Ron Moody - for whom he was lucky enough to play a rendition of his very famous "Pick A Pocket" at the Bridewell Theatre in 2002.  Another of his favourite experiences was playing at the Royal Albert Hall with fellow band-mate Paul Purcell.  James was musical director for a London Gospel Choir for three years and he works throughout the music industry in as many avenues as possible; as an MD, music arranger, rehearsal pianist, performer and singing teacher - including three years working at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts.  It was whilst working in the theatre that he met his soul mate KJ whom he married in October 2007.  They were both very proud to have Pop Fiction play for their wedding reception and he swears that even if he won the lottery he wouldn't leave the band as he would miss them all too much...... although he also says he wouldn't give them any of his winnings! 

Useless information: James likes jazz, 24, rock power ballads, Nizlopi, Jeremy Clarkson’s rants, drinking wine with his wife till the sun comes up (ah!) Prison Break, Wolves winning, Lord of the Rings and winding the rest of the band up.  James dislikes London traffic, trying to walk anywhere during half term holidays, Wolves losing!  He also thinks the Government’s justification of speed cameras & the congestion charge is hilarious...    POP FACT : James has more nicknames than the rest of the band put together! 

 

 

PAUL PURCELL  drums & percussion

Useful information: Paul has played the drums professionally for the past ten years in both original and covers bands around the UK. He studied at Drum Tech, London where he gained a Diphe in Music Performance. Besides his many years of experience in live performance, Paul has recorded drums for many artists original songs and albums, including sessions at Premonition Studios, Fat Farm Studios & BBC Recording Studios, Ealing.  In 2007 Paul played at the Albert Hall in "Football Reaching Out For Africa" where he was part of the house band and played for Patti Boulaye, Aret Boulaye & Rik Waller among others.  Paul is an original member of POP FICTION and when they are not out touring the country he teaches drums & percussion in schools.

Useless information: Paul likes most sports where a ball is being hit, kicked, carried or caught, good funky music and good rock music, 24, mountain bike riding, Lost, Simpsons, Family Guy, Heroes, Blazing Saddles and anything Peter Kay related... Paul dislikes mushrooms & anything containing mushrooms

 

DAVE TROKE  bass guitar

Useful information: Dave Troke began playing electric bass at the age of twelve and by fourteen was playing with numerous covers and original bands throughout the Midlands.  After the completion of his BTEC National Diploma in Music Dave moved to London to study with Terry Gregory and Paul Scott at Basstech - achieving the "Best Bass Player of the Degree Award" in 2005.  He was then invited to teach at Southampton's Academy of Music and Sound (making him the youngest teacher there at the age of 23).  He now operates as both Course Leader and Head of the Bass Department.

Dave has performed throughout the world at prestigious venues and festivals with artists such as The James Taylor Quartet, Nitin Sawhney, Aled Jones, Pete Cunnah (D:Ream), Rachel Magoola, Beach Mercer, The Ryes and many more.  He has also worked with a number of great producers including Jay Reynolds (Just Jack), Ian Grimble (KT Tunstall, Manic Street Preachers, Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Ian Little (Duran Duran), Kevin Moloney (U2, Fairground Attraction, Sinead O'Connor, UB40), Mick Lister (Gareth Gates, Amy Winehouse, Holly Valance) and Andy Wright (Simply Red, Atomic Kitten, Jeff Beck, Blue).  Dave can be seen in and around London playing with various artists where you will find him continuously searching for a higher level of playing.... (we usually give him a stool).

Useless information:  Dave likes roast dinners, red wine, chips, Top Gear and fat grooves (in a musical sense that is)!  Dave dislikes miserable people, bad drivers, England's weather, old people that push in front of you in queues and Coronation Street.
