How far will Pop Fiction travel for an event?
Pop Fiction will travel throughout the UK and abroad although prices obviously increase the further the band has to travel. Occasionally, accomodation expenses will also need to be added for locations where the band need to stay overnight. How long do you play for?
A typical evening performance consists of 2 x 1hour sets or 3 x 40min sets. Both options are suitable to cover a whole evening as we also provide suitable party interval music. Our live sets can be played at any times of your choice throughout the night. We also have an additional lounge set available.
Do you bring all your own equipment with you?
Yes, Pop Fiction is fully self-contained. All we need from you is two wall sockets and we're away! We bring a 2000W PA system with two pairs of speakers (2 Mackie bass bins & 2 EV sx300 speakers). We also have additional equipment for helping us achieve and maintain a professional sound. Alongside our sound equipment we bring disco and stage lighting. The only thing we don't bring with us is a stage, but if there isn't a stage at your venue, we are more than comfortable performing without one.
Do you provide interval music?
Yes. Pop Fiction have specially prepared disco music which we play through our ipod while we are on our breaks between sets. Alternatively, should you require a DJ in addition to the band, we may be able to recommend some to you.
The venue doesn't allow a six piece band, can you downsize?
Yes. As of 2009, POP FICTION are also able to offer a four piece or a five piece band option for smaller venues or budget restrictions. Please see the band options page for further details and contact us for a quote.
How will you dress?
We have a smart black and white costume as standard (please see our photograph gallery to see our costumes.) However, should you have specific dress requirements for your event we will be more than happy to discuss them with you and are always happy to join in with fancy dress parties!
Would you be able to perform a song request?
Yes. Pop Fiction are able to learn and play special requests in addition to their standard sets, subject to a suitable notice period. This is especially suitable for weddings where the bride & groom want a special song played for their first dance.
What are your requirements?
We ask is that a private room is provided for the band before and during the event, and that soft refreshments are always available. A meal or selection of sandwiches is also appreciated, and is required when we are at a venue for most of the afternoon and all evening.
We also require suitable parking near the performance venue for us to be able to bring in and take out our substantial amount of equipment easily. Also, if the event is upstairs at a venue, please ensure there is a service lift because we are unable to carry our equipment up long flights of stairs.
Do you play outside events?
Yes. We have played at many outside events including private garden parties. There must be suitable power provided for the band's equipment, a level ground for us to set up on and suitable protective covering for the band and their equipment - please cater for the possibility of rain, even in the summer! Please also inform any neighbouring properties beforehand about the event as noise levels may be an issue.
Does the band have insurance?
Yes. Pop Fiction have a comprehensive public liability insurance policy for £5million that protects against accidental damage or personal injury to any third party person(s). All our equipment is also fully PAT-tested. Copies of our certificates are available on request.
Can we see you perform before we book?
Whenever it is possible we are more than happy for potential clients to come and see our live performances. We do occasionally perform at open events/charity functions and have also put on several events ourselves, so it is sometimes possible to see us at these. However, most of our performances are for private clients and are closed functions to which we never invite personal guests of our own. We hope you understand this need to respect our client's privacy. We have live video clips available on our website to give you an excellent idea of how we perform and what we sound like live.
How much do you charge?
It is difficult to give a quote without knowing the date & location of your event, but as a guide, our minimum fee is generally £1400. This is for a whole evening with two hours of live performance and interval music, six musicians and full PA system and lighting. Please note that travel expenses will need to be added the further away from us the event is. Discounts are available for midweek events. Quotes are given on request and are treated on an individual basis.
We have decided to book Pop Fiction! What happens next?
Once we have confirmed our availability for the date you require, Pop Fiction will send you out a contract. This will confirm all the details we have agreed to ensure we are meeting all your requirements.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. This is purely to secure the booking and give peace of mind to both parties. Once a deposit had been paid, Pop Fiction will not accept any other enquiries for that date.
How secure will our booking be?
As soon as a contract has been signed and returned with the deposit, the booking is completely secure. Pop Fiction have a 100% performance record and have performed at over 400 events!
